On Saturday, October 22 at 8 p.m., the Theatre at Washington, Virginia will present a Celtic music concert performed by Linn Barnes and Allison Hampton. This annual concert is eagerly awaited each fall by the many lovers of Celtic music in the region.
On a misty morning the Blue Ridge is remarkably reminiscent of Ireland, with fog hovering over the green fields, especially at this time of the year. Linn Barnes and Allison Hampton, part time residents in Rappahannock county, say that they are constantly inspired and amazed by the similarity to their other favorite place, Ireland.
For their annual fall concert at the Theatre they will play a variety of instruments Celtic, such as the harp and Irish bagpipes (uillean pipes) as well as lute, mandolin, viola da gamba and guitar. The music will be Irish, from lively jigs and reels to stately compositions by Turlough O'Carolan. There will also be pieces from Celtic France, Brittany, the 17th century English country dancing tradition, and a new piece composed by Barnes at Notre Dame Cathedral on a recent trip to Paris.
