There s a new shop with a special flair located in the heart of Sperryville on Main Street.
As the name suggests, “On the Porch” welcomes visitors to the warmth and charm that they'll find inside coupled with the friendliness of its young owner, 21-year-old Alaina Breeden.
The name “On the Porch” is close to Breeden s heart.
“It stems from my love of Southern culture. Porches were a place where families and friends came together. The past was passed down to children through storytelling and music. Porches were a place where people came to gossip, or have a cool glass of tea on a hot summer evening,” said Breeden who wanted her store to have the same home-like feeling, a place where people would be comfortable.
As a small child, her mother knew she was never cut out for desk work. She would come up \^ith entrepreneurial ideas as early as the age of five mixing perfumes and soaps into concoctions and putting them in unique containers that she wanted to sell.
She would spend summers trying to convince her greatgrandmother in South Carolina to set up a roadside stand at her home to sell her homemade jellies and preserves, and the bounty of produce grown in the two gardens. Making something out of nothing kept Breeden occupied through her adolescent and teen years.
