Debbie

The camera that can save lives is now at work at the Amissville Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company. It was dedicated this past Sunday to the memory of a woman who grew up in Amissville, the late Debbie Wharton.
Debbie was a stalwart of the Jesse and Rose Loeb Foundation of Warrenton, where she was the secretary. Her boss, Thomas Kirk, Executive Director of the Foundation, told a gathering of family and friends in the fire hall that “Debbie was instrumental” in the work of the organization. The Foundation provided the grant money for the Fire and Rescue Company’s purchase of the $11,000 thermal imaging device.
The imager, demonstrated by Amissville Chief J. B. Carter, Jr., detects heat. The hand-held device lets firefighters “see” through impenetrable smoke, finding both unconscious victims and unseen flames.
