Veterans Day - Third Annual Salute

By George W. Dornbusch

Special to the Rappahannock News

Rappahannock County High School is again hosting a Veterans Day celebration on November 11.

The ceremonies will begin prompty at 11 a.m. Please plan to arrive early and enter through the gymnasium doors.

We are proud to have our own chorus and band perform an Armed Services Medley. The chorus will sing “Choose to Stand” by Ruth Elaine Schram, “America, of Thee I Sing” by Mary Donnelly and George L.O. Strand. The band will play Hymn to the Fallen from the movie “Saving Private Ryan”, “As All the Heavens Were a Bell” by Jay Bocook, and a variety of marches.

Captain Phil Daczewitz has agreed to be the keynote speaker this year. Captain Daczewitz graduated from Rappahannock County High School in 1990 and served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, serving as a Company Commander and Platoon Leader. He then received a promotion to Captain.

In honor of veterans everywhere, the Band Boosters are offering American Flags that will include Veterans’ names. We hope that they will completely encircle the oval in front of the high school on November 11th.

Each student will be given one flag to honor one veteran. Flags are available for purchase at a nominal fee of $3.00 each. Flag purchase forms are available at school, local stores, post offices, churches, etc.

The Lions Club and Band Boosters will provide refreshments for veterans and their families.

This is a very special event and your support for all veterans living and deceased is a wonderful way of showing how lucky we are to live in the United States of America.

Please join us on November 11!
