Flint Hill Lady
Some 300 people came to the Maddox Funeral Home in Front Royal on Saturday to pay their last respects to Alice Putnam Pullen, a much loved figure in the community life of Flint Hill for many of her 93 years. Mrs. Pullen was widely recognized for her tall bearing and large flowered hats. But she is remembered most affectionately by the community of Flint Hill because of her extraordinary devotion and hard work with the Ladies Auxiliary of the Flint Hill Fire Company. She in fact helped organize the Flint Hill fire and rescue service in 1954. According to her daughter, Mary Frances Bywaters of Flint Hill, Mrs. Pullen was buried with her new pink Easter hat with big flowers as she wished.
