Through the efforts of these artists, Sunnyside was filled with the sounds of gospel and folk music, including some historical civil war songs. The benefit’s location at the popular tourist stop meant that even travellers who had initially pulled over for a Kobe Burger got to listen to the music and give for Katrina releif. The day of excellent music was a success, raising close to $2,500 in donations for the Katrina Relief Fund. The concert was part of Rappahannock’s continuing efforts to aid the victims in the Gulf Coast.
Heddleston was pleased. “We’re having our next steering committee meeting soon and now we’ll be able to figure out where to direct this money in a meaningful way.”
