2006 marks the lOtl anniversary of Hearthstont School in Rappahannocl County, Virginia. Hearthstont School was begun in 1996 by i group of local parents whc wanted a different style of edu cation for their children thar what was offered in the public school system. After studying several different educations! methods, the Waldorf Methoc was chosen as the inspiratior for the curriculum at Hearthstone because of its deeply nurturing and “whole child” educa tional philosophy, focus on art and creativity in education, and the integration of subjects ir learning. These parents alsc wanted to create a parent cooperative school that would fostei community between its students and their families through greater involvement in the daily operations and ongoing growth of the school.
After 10 years, this vision has come to fruition in a new school facility, wonderful teachers and steadily growing student body and the special and unique atmosphere that is Hearthstone School.
Ashley Dawson, an 8th grader, said, “I like the way Hearthstone feels like one bie family.”
