Itests come later
Like traditional Waldorf schools, students at Hearthstone do not take “tests” until around the 6th or 7th grade. Students receive thriceyearly, in-depth written evaluations from their teachers, and parent-teacher conferences are held at least twice per year. A student’s progress, especially in the younger grades, is determined by his or her participation in class, main lesson book work, and understanding of the concepts taught in class. Older students take tests, have homework, and are evaluated on these items as well as their classwork. High school students take SAT preparatory classes as well.
Kelli Kvames, an 11th grader at Hearthstone, said, “Hearthstone embraces you and inspires you to learn.” Vanessa Dunn, {mother 11th grader, agreed, “Hearthstone is a wonderful school and I like that Hearthstone cares about everyone.”
