Today, there are over 2,000 schools throughout the world based on Steiner’s model of education. The first Waldorf School in the United States, the Rudolf Steiner School of New York, opened in 1928. In the past 20 years, the Waldorf Method has become the largest private, nonsectarian educational system in the world, and the fastest growing. Public schools in many areas of the United States are incorporating facets of Waldorf Education into their curriculum. The first public school system to do so was in Milwaukee in 1991. Its success has led to a continually growing movement of charter and magnet schools that incorporate Waldorf principles and practices.
