This photo was taken very close to Jarman Gap in the southern section of the Shenandoah National Park. The morels were nearly stumbled upon in the drainage for Skyline Drive by Washington Scoutmaster Roger Pierson and two of his fellow Philmont Scout Ranch Advisors, Emily Holder of Luray, and Jeff Sutton of Volcano Hawaii, near the end of a 12-mile hike to Turk Mountain and environs. The spotting occurred at around 2 p.m. on April 15th. “We did not disturb any of the morels, as all present agreed we needed to research Park policy, if said policy allows for in-park consumption, we plan a backpacking trip through Jarman Gap in the very near future!,” exclaimed Pierson. Flint Hill columnist Richard Brady reported a morel sighting on the same day but a few hours earlier. It’s springtime. The morels are here.
