Garden on tour

A participant in last year’s Group Show, Hans Gerhard will open his studio and open air “sculpture garden” to visitors on this year’s tour. Hughes River Farm in Slate Mills was restored by Gerhard since he acquired it in 1987. Said Hans: “My wife Christian and I hope that people will choose to travel to these southern reaches of the county to visit my studio and see my work. It is the beauty of the surroundings that emboldens me to invite visitors to the place.”

Visitors will experience quintessential Rappahannock County as they travel south on Route 231 to Slate Mills. At the farm they will see plenty of wild growth and perhaps wildlife beyond the hay fields as well as Gerhard’s mostly abstract paintings, whimsical or bizarre wood carvings, and rusty metal sculpture.
