Opponents of Dominion Virginia Power’s proposal to build a new 500,000-volt electric transmission corridor in Rappahannock County have known all along that they are the underdogs in a David-versus-Goliath battle.
But Goliath may seem a little bit bigger after a report from Commonwealth’s Attorney Pieter Luke and County Administrator John McCarthy at Monday’s monthly meeting of the County Board of Supervisors.
Luke and McCarthy reported to the board on a recent visit they had with staff members from the State Corporation Commission, which decides whether new .power line routes may be built in Virginia. The county administrator called it a “productive but not entirely heartening meeting.”
Dominion plans to submit its application for the new right of way to the SCC before the end of April, McCarthy said. At that point, the commission will appoint an examiner to gather information about the need for a new corridor and the appropriateness of the
