The Rappahannock County Garden Club is offering a Community College Scholarship Grant to a senior in Rappahannock County in the amount of $2,000. The recipient will receive $1,000 the first semester, and upon demonstrated successful completion of the semester, $1,000 will be awarded.

The Club will again offer two other scholarship grants. The Francis J. Leonard Memorial Scholarship Grant will be offered to a senior in Rappahannock County for the purpose of continuing his or her education in a four-year college or university in the amount of $1,500 — $1,000 the first year, and $500 the second. In memory of Mrs. Maiy P. Marocchi, a scholarship grant in the amount of $1,000 will be offered to a senior in Rappahannock County who is selecting a career in nursing or some other area of medicine.

In order to receive these scholarships, the recipients must be residents of Rappahannock County, members of this year’s graduating class (home schooled or other schools), be accepted at an accredited fouryear college or university for the two latter scholarships, have a need for financial assistance and be recommended by two non-related residents of Rappahannock County.

Applications for the scholarships are available in the guidance department of the Rappahannock County High School, Wakefield Country Day School, and Hearthstone School, or from Mrs. Jo-an Getsinger at 635-8114. Deadline for returning applications to the schools noted above is May 10, 2007.
