teachers the wages they now believe they deserve? How could their priorities in previous years have been so wrongheaded that they let our teachers’ salaries get so far behind?
You cannot be a good steward of the public resources by simply holding out your hand for more. You have to manage your human resources and you have to manage your fiscal resources. Effective management sets priorities and follows through to see that they are met. If the Board of Supervisors will do nothing more, they should at least be able tq say to the school administration, “Here is your $332,228 for teacher salary increases. Make certain it is used that way. Now, prepare for our review a proposed budget that demonstrates that priority and totals the same dollar value as last year’s budget.”
Then we could have a public meeting about what other ‘extras’ might be considered.
