Luke said he has also looked into the possibility of underground transmission lines and found they are expensive and cause several technical problems. His research led him to a Connecticut consultant who works on tunnel transmission technology, but that man had already been hired by Dominion.
The county has not spent any of the $50,000 the board allocated last month for legal defense against Dominion. However, the supervisors will likely need to decide how much of that the county should spend in May after Dominion has submitted its application to the SCC.
“It was abundantly clear at this meeting that it will cost a lot of money,” Luke said.
McCarthy said a “fully engaged fight” would cost $500,000, but there are smaller battles that are still worth the effort.
