The Kennedy Center Chamber Players, of which Orkis and Hardy are founding members, was begun in 2003 and comprises the principal players of the string and keyboard sections of the National Symphony Orchestra.

Lambert Orkis has received international recognition as a chamber musician. He has appeared in recital with violinist Artne-Sophie Mutter since 1988 and with cellist Mstislav Rostropovich since 1983. With Anne-Sophie Mutter he has frequently recorded for Deutsche Grammaphon, winning a Grammy Award for "best Chamber Music Performance" for the Beethoven Piano and Violin
