Students in Wakefield Country Day School’s Advanced Placement Environmental Science class have successfully launched their wood duck habitat project, spending the better part of a day erecting seven nesting boxes on a local landowner’s property. This collaborative effort involved nearly a dozen Rappahannock landowners, WCDS students, and four local businesses that helped underwrite the construction costs involved in this undertaking. The nesting boxes were built in class several weeks beforehand. Once on site, students used a gas auger to drill holes, and then lag-bolted the boxes to 4 x 4 posts.
