Chris Moyles of the Rappahannock Community Housing Partnership informed the board about a new initiative under way to study the need for affordable housing in the county.
Moyles said there is a strong anecdotal need for more workforce housing, but not much hard data available.
“With a very small population it’s hard to get decent data from the census models and the other models,” he said.
Hampton District Supervisor Bryant Lee asked if the county’s zoning rules would need to be changed to accommodate workforce housing. Moyles answered that they would not need to be changed, because the county’s comprehensive plan already accounts for increased densities in village areas. «
