David Cubbage of the Virginia Department of Transportation reported that the bridge over the Thornton River on Rudasill Mill Road (Route 621) has reopened after a 30-day closure for repairs. He said the project had been scheduled to take 45 days.
On the issue of the Rediviva Road bridge over the Covington River, Cubbage said it is doubtful that repairs will be possible for the 78-year-old span, which was closed by VDOT in December. Department officials are still deciding whether they will demolish the bridge or transfer it to a private owner, he said.
