cancer. _ Fund Raising: Relay for Life is the only county fund raiser for the Rappahannock County Unit of the American Cancer Society (ACS). It is our opportunity to support the ACS’s work in research and programs. Since 1946, ACS has invested $2.9 billion in cancer research and has played a role in almost all scientific milestones in cancer research. In addition to research, ACS supports education and information and programs to support those with cancer. (In Rappahannock, you can reach the Cancer Information Center by dialing 1-800-ACS2345 or www.cancer.org to receive answers to your questions and referrals to local resources 24 hours a day.) Fund raising mostly takes place before the event as Relay teams’ members solicit sponsors for themselves and their teams and through other activities such as bake sales and yard sales.
Fun: The Relay is also one of the largest community events in Rappahannock County and is a fun event being both a celebration of life and a community party. .The Relay teams set up campsites and survivors walk the first lap, symbolizing the progress we have made.
