The purpose of this letter is to
describe our recent activities. As many readers know, last spring we resigned from the local council of the American Cancer Society.
In part, we resigned because we felt that the American Cancer Society was no longer providing significant service directly to Rappahannock County residents. The staff assistance that we received was directed towards raising money. The money was being used for worthy research and national programs but only marginally directed to programs to help cancer survivors, their caregivers, or preventing cancer within our community. We wanted our efforts to be more directly used for our community’s needs.
Since leaving the council, we have considered how best to use our program and fund-raising experience to assist people in Rappahannock. We considered forming a new organization but felt that the effort required to form a new organization would be better used to assist an established program
