A revised motor-vehicle ordinance and an increase in county taxes on licensing of motor vehicles will go into effect March 1, 1985. The decision to raise to $15 the taxes charged per motorcycle and to $20 the taxes charged per automobile followed a public hearing and much discussion. Why do we need to have such a large increase from $15 to $20? Ronald Frazier of Amissville asked. Frazier wondered why the supervisors didn t opt instead for a one or two percent increase in real estate taxes to take care of additional revenue needs.

The Great Meadow race course officially opened with a unique "ribbon breaking. Arthur W. Arundel, the president and founder of the Meadow Outdoors Foundation which manages the facility, and several local steeplechase and point-to-point jockeys rode through the ribbon to open the course.
