School’s back in session, so it's

time for bake sales.

Bake sales may seem like a fun way to raise money for the school, scouts or library, but they’re actually grueling competitions where moms compete for t he coveted title of “good mother” because, as everyone knows, good mothers bake well.

If you’re new to the bake sale circuit, here are the rules.

1. Homemade only. The most unforgivable sin of motherhood is to buy a cake for your child’s bake sale. A mediocre, homemade scratch cake is worth more mothering points than the most expensive cake ..from the best bakery.

2. Nothing gourmet, diet or health food. Choose desserts vour grandmother made and use real sugar like she did. Chocolate cake thickly covered with melt-in-your-mouth fudge. Creamy, vanilla-iced banana cake. Chewy, gooey brownies. Cupcakes. Peanut butter, oatmeal or chocolate chip cookies.
