Wood, Day and DeLuise weren’t able to do anything to contain the fire. “There was no place to put a fire line . . . The gound was too rocky,” said Wood. He also noted that without power saws, they were unable to cut i down any of the dead trees that might have caught, fallen and spread the fire further. Wood emphasized, however, that the fire presented “no immediate danger” when he viewed it at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
Wood said he returned down the moutain, meeting three Park Rangers with power saws and equipment on their way up.
