Trott attended the University of North Carolina and earned a Masters Degree in Botany. He has traveled all over the United States as well as to Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago in his search for bird lore and photographs.
For 13 years, Trott and his wife Lenore founded and ran the Burgundy Center for Wildlife Studies near Capon Bridge, W. Va. This resident program for 11 to 15-yearolds concentrated on exploring the natural world from both the scientific and aesthetic viewpoint. Several outstanding ornithologists, botanists, environmentalists and teachers began their training at Trott's Burgundy Center.
