These problems can be solved wtm tne passage ot the Pari-Mutuel Referendum. Estimates have been made as to the potential economic boost to Virginia. These estimates are founded on solid research, using information from states with racing which are comparable to Virginia.
The basic facts are: 1) $265 million per year will flow into Virginia’s economy with PariMutuel; 2) 13,000 new jobs will be created; 3) $25 million will be taken into the state treasury every year after two major tracks are in operation; 4) half of that $25 million will be returned to every locality (regardless of whether or not they have pari-mutuel), based on population; and 5) the local option provision permits each locality to vote separately and make its own decision on Pari-Mutuel at the next
