A Democrat, Andrew Miller was born in Fairfax and is a magna cum laude graduate of Princeton University. He earned his law degree at the University of Virginia and was admitted to the Virginia bar in 1960. Elected to the scholastic honor fraternity Phi Beta Kappa in his college undergraduate years, he was the editor in chief of the Virginia Law Review from 1959-60. A lieutenant in the US Army artillery from 1955-57, he served in Korea.
A Rotarian and a Presbyterian, he has performed in a host of service and honorary roles.
He is a former president of the Abingdon Rotary Gub, a deacon of his church, was chairman of the Young Lawyers Section of the Virginia Bar Association, president of the Washington County United Fund and the Virginia Highlands Festival, a trustee of King College, director of the Southwest Tuberculosis Association, and a merr ber of the advisory committee of the Old Dominion Foundation Fellowship Program.
He was a member of the Committee on Constitutional Revision of the Virginia Bar Association, was elected Attorney General in 1969 and reelected in 1973.
In 1976 he received the Wyman Memorial Award as the “Outstanding American Attorney General" and was dubbed one of the “200 Faces For The Future" by Time Magazine in 1974.
