A conservative, Robinson said he is part of a minority in Congress meeting the political challenge ‘‘of those longtime ultra-liberals now posturing as conservatives in the wake of the nationwide taxpayers’ revolt.

‘‘We need more conservatives in Washington to support the positive alternatives that have been offered, not fewer," said Robinson, who resounds with criticism about the “present liberal-controlled Congress" and seldom mentions the existence of a challenger for his seat.

Robinson said his schedule allowed no time to debate his opponent. He seeks an image of service to his constituency in the 7th District, which takes in more territory than the state of New Jersey and stretches from the northernmost limits of the state to the suburbs of Richmond.
