According to Hakel, changing 40 mile-per-hour winds from every direction hampered fire fighting efforts on Tuesday night and Wednesday. “It was very hard to hold the fire at anything but natural barriers,” he maintained. “We had explosive fire conditions."

Hakel reported that a separate fire also broke out on Sunday on the opposite side of Old Rag near White Oak Canyon. The second fire, he said, was contained after burning only 30 acres. The Park's current approach with both fires is to keep them contained within the present fire lines, according to Hakel.
