On Tuesday, Rappahannock voters will decide whether to allow liquor by the drink to be sold in restaurants in the county. We support a “yes” vote on this issue.

Allowing mixed drinks to be served here will not mean a rash of sleazy bars on every street comer. If the option passes on November 7, restaurants will have to meet strict state licensing requirements before the first cocktail is poured. Under Virginia Alcohol Beverage Control Board regulations, a restaurant has to prove its main business is serving food to the public.
