He is a member of the American Judicature Society and of the advisory board of the Center For Oceans Law and Policy. His wife Doris is the daughter of a Princeton University dean. Their daughter Julia. 20. has taken leave from her Princeton studies to campaign for her father in northern Virginia. Their son Pickens, 18, attends Douglas Freeman High School in Richmond, and their daughter Elise, 15, is also in school in Richmond.
JOHN WILLIAM WARNER, 52, Republican, was born in Washington and is the son of a physician, the late Dr. John W. Warner.
After attending public schools in Washington he enlisted in the US Navy at age 17. In 1949 he was graduated from Washington and Lee University. Lexington, with a bachelor of science degree.
His training for the law at the University of Virginia was interrupted by a second tour of military service, this time in the US Marine Corps. He served in Korea, attained the rank of captain and remained in the Marine Corps reserve until 1961.
He was graduated from law school in 1953 and admitted to the bar in 1954. He was an assistant US attorney in the Department of Justice until April 1960 when he joined the campaign staff of then vice president Richard M. Nixon.
