2. “13,000 New Jobs”. Even accepting the number, these “new jobs” would be just about as useful to our economy as adding 13,000 new malingering bureaucrats to our public payroll. What will these new employees produce that is useful or needed for the economy of this Commonwealth? They will simply become the instrument by which the hardearned savings of some are transferred very rapidly to the pockets of others who shun honest work to get it there. The sympathetic concern of these people over our tax burden and unemployment rate brings tears to my eyes!
3. Local option on parimutuel betting later. This argument reaches some sort of nadir for cynical, hypocritical thinking. It can be translated into honest English like this: “Even if you think that legalized gambling is immoral or socially destructive, vote “yes” on November 7th so you can still take advantage later on of the evil and folly jn other communities.” And the proponents have the nerve to refer to Virginia’s “Great State Traditions"!
4. “Strict Regulations” to prevent infiltration by organized crime. This is the killer, in the writer's opinion.
