She added that part of the overtime work required of Welfare personnel comes in answering emergency night calls.
Supervisor Dick Latham, who is also chairman of the local Welfare Board, noted that it takes several people to complete the screening required on welfare recipients. He added that he supported the social worker position because he felt the additional employee could help welfare recipients become productive members of society.
Mrs. Buntin reported that the State Welfare Department has received several complaints from other agencies on the Rappahannock department’s delay in processing cases.
In addition to the funds for a second social worker to alleviate this delay, she asked the Supervisors for money to cover a rent increase of $600 per year for the Welfare offices.
She told the Supervisors that an extra $920 would bring the local share of welfare costs up to the level approved by the state.
