By a four to one vote with Latham in opposition, the Supervisors allocated an additional $120 to the Welfare Department to cover the local share of the $600 rent increase.
Sheriff W. A. Buntin met «vith more success on his budget request. He asked for and received an extra $790 for the increase in secretary’s salary already approved by the State Compensation Board. He explained that the increase would be partially balanced by a $150 decrease in insurance premiums for department personnel, bringing the net total to $640.
The Supervisors also approved Dr. William Bloomer’s request on behalf of the School Board to carry over approximately $61,000 from the current school budget for expenditure in 1979-80 fiscal year.
Bloomer explained that $31,000 will be used to purchase two buses ordered last year but not delivered to date.
He added that he also expected around $30,000 above what had been anticipated in the final quarterly payment of sales tax revenue from the state.
“You could easily burn that up in the cost of fuel," noted H. B. Wood. “We could also use some for maintenance projects at the high school and to modify the elementary school’s heating controls,” Bloomer added.
