On Saturday May 12, the Democrats from the 26th Senatorial district had their nominating convention in Harrisonburg at the RionBowman VFW Hall. Shad Soloman (D-Hot Springs) was the keynote speaker.
Luray attorney Robert Janney made the nominating speech for W. E. “Ernie" Schlabach.
Dr. Schlabach in his acceptance speech stated his goals were to pull the Democratic party together, to represent all the people, and provide the voters with a choice.
Some of the issues brought up were honesty in government, annexation, electric rates, education, and farming. He concluded by asking the Democratic party to close ranks and all pull together for a successful campaign.
