Three Hampton Nominees
“Yogi” Bear proposed that Charles Eldred be appointed as School Board member from Hampton.
Eldred, married to the former Frances Walker, moved to Rappahannock in 1975. Bear said that Eldred had attended VPI for three years, had ten years of administrative dealings with schools and is treasurer-elect of the Rappahannock Lions Club.
In addition, said Bear, Eldred has three children in Rappahannock public schools—two at the elementary and one at RCHS.
Joyce DeBergh, Sharon Kilpatrick and Charlie Manson also endorsed Eldred.
Kilpatrick praised incumbent Arthlinda Quantance’s “unique contribution” to the county’s schools but noted that Paul Nichols is currently the only board member with children in school.
