Saturday
Finals in the first annual Rappahannock Tennis Championships, sponsored by the Rappahannock Recreation Authority, will be held this Saturday, June 30, beginning at 10 a.m. at Dr. Werner Krebser's court near Huntly. The tournament began May 24 with 80 contestants. All preliminary rounds will be completed by today, and the field of 80 will be narrowed to 16 finalists.
Saturday’s schedule will be as follows:
10 a.m.. Mixed Doubles, Ann & Donald Brown v. Ruth & Fanning Baumgardner.
11:30 a.m., Women’s Singles, Diane Bruce v. either Ginny Swaim or Ann Brown.
1 p.m., Men’s Singles, Rod Kirkpatrick v. Donald Brown.
2:30 p.m.. Men’s Doubles, Rayner Snead & Dennis Fairbrother v. Keeton Barnes & Jens Tholand.
The women’s doubles match has been rescheduled for Sunday at 1:30 p.m., and places Ruth Baumgardner and Cathy Lowe against Joan Lillard and Ginny Swaim.
Jeanne Drevas is making pottery trophies for the winners of each category.
