Charles J. Eldred of Washington and Robert W. Eastham of Flint Hill were appointed to the Rappahannock School Board by the Electoral Trustees Monday at a reconvened meeting in the elementary school.

Eastham was appointed to a two-year term as the representative from Wakefield District, replacing Paul Nichols. Eldred will serve a four-year term from Hampton District, filling the seat held by Arthlinda Quaintance.

Eastham’s appointment appeared to come as a surprise to the handful of people in the audience Monday night.

The Trustees first met last Thursday, June 21, at an advertised public hearing for the stated purpose of “considering the School Board membership” from Wakefield and Hampton Districts.

At that time, the only name put forward in nomination from Wakefield was that of the incumbent, Paul Nichols.
