Mike Brown, manager of B & B Service Center, received a special use permit from the Rappahannock Board of Zoning Appeals last Thursday to operate a used car business on his lot on Route 211 outside Washington.
At the September 13 meeting, BZA chairman Josef Gardiner asked Brown if he planned to make any physical improvements for the used car operation.
Gardiner recalled that a special use permit was issued for the service station itself a few years ago. The permit stipulated, he said, that neither the county nor the state would be liable for the cost of improvements to the business when the property is eventually taken for the widening of Route 211.
Brown replied that he planned no improvements in relation to used car sales. “1 just want to be able to legally sell the two or three cars 1 have there now,” he explained, adding that cars would be displayed to the left of the building.
According to Brown, the number of cars kept on the lot will depend on how good business is.
