Assistant superintendent Rob McDaniel noted that the school psychologist currently uses all her three days in Rappahnnock for testing children. “Either we have to get her more time or cut back on testing,” he said.
Eastham suggested that McDaniel broach the subject of “neurometries” with the psychologist. “I predict she will be extremely against it...(Using mechanical equipment to diagnose mental disorders) is an idea that most psychologists will not buy,” he added.
McDaniel pointed out that some of Rappahannock’s learning disabled children are currently being sent to the University of Virginia where they receive services from a psychiatrist, psychologist and pediatrician.
Testing procedures used by UVa are the same as the procedures employed by the school psychologist in Rappahannock, according to McDaniel. “If there was a short cut, I think they would use it,” he added.
McDaniel agreed to discuss the “neurometries” approach with the school pyschologist and volunteered to send a copy of the letter from the New York University Medical Center to the UVa staff.
