According to Masterson, research done by the New York University Medical Center indicates that computers may be more accurate than convential methods in uncovering learning disabilities. All the equipment, he said, is portable and runs through a telephone line. “I think it’s up to the school psychologist to pursue,” said Masterson.

According to a letter from the New York University Medical Center, “Neorometrics” studies the brain electrical activity and brain wave patterns of learning disabled children to see how they differ from “normal” children of the same age.

“Neurometries requires special computer equipment, a technician trained to place the harmless and painless disc electrodes and to operate the computer, and professionals that can interpret the computer generated EEG and evoked potential data,” the letter stated.
