Douglas K. Baumgardner, candidate for commonwealth attorney, is a graduate of the University of Virginia Law School. He resides in Sperryville with his wife, the former Margaret Averill DeJarnette.

Baumgardner is chairman of the Rappahannock County Recreational Facilities Authority and former president of the Rappahannock County Jaycees. He is a member of the Rappahannock County Task Force on Youth, the board of the directors of the Rappahannock Lions Club, board of directors of the Fauquier-Rappahannock Chapter of the American Red Cross and the citizen advisory committee for Piedmont Technical Education Center.
