Ruritan
Barbecue
The Amissville Ruritan barbecue, a popular festivity held for seventeen years on the July 4th weekend, will have a Fall encore this year, on Saturday, October 13th. There will be continuous serving from 5 to 8 p.m. at the fire house on Route 211 in Amissville.
In a harvest festival atmosphere, there will be a working cider press, demonstrating the art of home production. Cider will be on sale as well as Rappahannock apples. A free sample of cider can be had as proof of quality of an appetizer to the meal.
The pit-cooked beef wijl be processed as usual iin a fashion quite similar to the famous New England Gam Bake. Packaged for convenient handling, the beef is steam-cooked for hours on a bed of hissing hot stone.
The tenderized meat will be served with a special accenting sauce, the secret of a Ruritan member. Added to this wizardry are home made pies, cakes and desserts, along with the usual beverages, vegetables and bread.
