Harvest Moon
Songs, stories, and dances will mark the arrival of the Harvest Moon at a festival to be held at the Science Museum of Virginia at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 6.
Storyteller Michael Parent will use stories and songs to tell of the folklore of the moon. Parent, from Charlottesville, is known for his creative storytelling techniques and often uses juggling and music as part of his stories.
At the Saturday festival. Chief Thundercloud and several members of the Mattoponi Tribe will lead Indian dances. Telescopes, set up and manned by members of the Richmond Astronomical Society, will allow visitors to have a close look at the evening’s full moon. Dr. Paul Knappenberger, Museum director and an astronomer, will talk about the moon, and there will be doughnuts and cider for those attending the*, festival.
There is no charge for the event, which will be held on the Museum’s lawn.
