Once the projects are under way, it’s up to Libby to visit her young farmers out in the rural villages and keep track of their progress. “We’re trying to get participants to keep records so we can get some feedback,” she explained.
Libby also meets with youth clubs in the rural villages, climbing on her motorbike every morning to wheel out to the more primitive areas of Malays!'. As in her town, the villages have running water and electricity but wooden country houses, built on stilts for added coolness, usually lack indoor plumbing.
“At first, the people didn’t know I was there so I had to go out and find them. I still have to go to them a lot but as they’ve learned to trust me, they come to me more often,” Libby said.
