John and Joan Public have greater access to needed information than ever. Part of this access is being provided by a network oi telephone numbers which disseminate information on a variety of subjects at no cost.

The Virginia Tech Extension Information Office has compiled a list pf toll-free numbers which can be called for referral and educational information. All can be reached in Virginia.

The following is a list of Virginia numbers which may prove useful to Virginia citizens.

Virginia Office of Consumer Affiars—1-800-5529963. It attempts to aid those who have consumer complaints against a private business or state agency. It attempts to refer the caller to a helpful source in his or her locality.

State Corporation Commission—1-800-552-9760. It has appropriate branches to handle complaints about auto, life, or health insurance; corporation information; electric, gas, water or sewer problems; telephone inquiries; and banking practices. Virginia Council for the Deaf—1-800-552-7917. It acts as a referral agency, providing such information as to where possible employment may be found or where special education may
