In one case, it’s a federal law. In the other, it’s a state law.
“Really, the only differences are procedural. In the military, you try somebody by court martial. It's just another name for a trial. There’s a judge and a jury and they determine guilt “beyond a reasonable doubt" and then there’s sentencing. It’s similar to the system wehave in Virginia.
“The rules of evidence are different. In federal court, they follow the federal rules of evidence. In Virginia, we have our own rules of evidence. But these are greatly semilar. There’s minor difference between them. The two judicial systems pretty much parallel one another.”
