Bill and Julia Bailey, formerly of Amissville, ventured back to the county Thursday. They seem resigned to forfeiting their dreams and lifestyle here in the Blue Ridge for the socalled rat race of Montgomery County, Md. Their new residence is near their children but the balcony of the condominium overlooks a 20-acre corn field recently cut for sileage which provides a rare attraction of geese, ducks and birds from nehrby ponds in the area.
Bill was Virginia born at Bailey’s Crossroads and together with Julia longed to return and settle in the Blue Ridge. It took 12 years of planning, salvaging old timbers, old bricks, old ideas and much pleasurable effort to see their dream come true. Most of the actual work was done by them with the help of local craftsmen.
Julia and Bill visit Rappahannock as frequently as possible to see old friends and neighbors. They recommend early retirement for anyone wishing to enjoy the fortune of discovery of the way of life in the hills, hollows and sunsets of the mountains.
Their move back to urban cliff-dwelling was prompted by Bill’s arm surgery 3 years ago and since then he boasts of a recent pacemaker which he says directs his heart
