Pope John Paul is scheduled to arrive in Washington at 11 a.m, Saturday. October 6, but the State Police expect heavy travel into the area to begin as early as Friday. As many as 1,000,000 people are expected to attend the Pope’s public mass at 3 p.m., Sunday.
According to the Sate Police, traffic could be particularly heavy over Interstates 95, 395 and 495. All avqjlable troopers will be on duty to handle anticipated traffic problems throughout the State, and additional troopers have been assigned to these highways in Northern Virginia.
State Police released the following traffic plan to be in effect this weekend:
