A real old fashioned country Fourth of July affair is in tlie making in the historic town of Washington, Virginia. Tucked snugly into the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, the town was originally laid out in 1749 by George Washington. It was the first town named after Washington and still retains the flavor of its early American roots. It is an entirely appropriate setting for a Fourth of July celebration.
The streets of the town will come alive at 10 a.m., Friday, the Fourth, when sidewalk shops, craft demonstrations and area stores ring their open-for-business bells. Family fun and marvelous musical entertainment are being planned for the day’s celebrations for residents and visitors alike, while games, buggy rides and a bicycle decoration contest are planned for the youngsters.
A program of music will be staged throughout the day at various locations with a charge of SI.00 per person for an all-day ticket.
The ladies of the local churches will again have available delicious food and baked goods while the Washington Volunteer Fire
